Maternal and Child Health Handbook (Boshi Kenko Techo)

Once you learn you are pregnant, please submit a completed Notification of Pregnancy (Ninshin Todokesho) to the city office. Upon submission, you will be issued a Maternal and Child Health Handbook. The handbook is used to record the health of the mother and child. English, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, Thai and Korean versions of the handbook are available for foreign residents. In addition to this handbook, you will also obtain 14 antenatal checkup coupons and a Certificate of Beneficiary of Medical Aid for Expectant and Parturient Women.

Medical Aid for Pregnant and Parturient Women (Ninsampu Iryohi Josei)

This medical aid is available for pregnant or parturient women residing in Utsunomiya City. The aid covers the portion of medical expenses to be paid individually when they receive inpatient or outpatient medical services covered by health insurance.

Eligibility Holders of Certificate of Beneficiary of Medical Aid for Expectant and Parturient Women
Coverage Period From the first day of the month in which you obtained a Maternal and Child Health Handbook to the end of the month after next of the month in which you gave birth or had a miscarriage
How to Use the Program
  1. Pay self-bearing medical expenses to the medical institution.
  2. Submit a completed application and itemized receipts from the medical institution to the Children and Family Division.
  3. The medical subsidy will be deposited into your bank account.

Vaccinations

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to prevent infectious diseases, ameliorate the effects of infection, and contain the spread of epidemics. The City of Utsunomiya provides the vaccinations listed below free of charge for children of eligible age with a registered address in the city. A notice of vaccination is sent out to parents of eligible children. When your child gets vaccinated, please make sure to bring a vaccination coupon and your Maternal and Child Health Handbook. To have your child vaccinated at a medical institution, please call it ahead of time to confirm its vaccination schedule and make an appointment.

The vaccinations listed below are given at medical institutions in Utsunomiya City.

Medical Aid for Children (Kodomo Iryohi Josei)

The Medical Aid for Children is available for children residing in Utsunomiya City who have not completed the 6th grade of elementary school. The aid covers the portion of medical expenses to be paid individually when they receive inpatient or outpatient medical services covered by health insurance.
In the case of children under 3 years of age receiving medical treatment within Tochigi Prefecture: Simply present the child's health insurance certificate and Certificate of Beneficiary of Medical Aid for Children to the medical institution. You will be exempted from the personally borne medical cost. When receiving medical treatment outside of Tochigi Prefecture, pay the medical fees to the medical institution. Then apply for reimbursement of the medical expenses paid.
In the case of children aged 3 or older receiving medical treatment within Utsunomiya City:
Simply present the child's health insurance certificate and Certificate of Beneficiary of Medical Aid for Children to the medical institution. You will be exempted from the personally borne medical cost. When receiving medical treatment outside of Utsunomiya City, pay the medical fees to the medical institution. Then apply for reimbursement of the medical expenses paid. When using this program, a Certificate of Beneficiary of Medical Aid for Children is required. Please apply for the certificate.

Medical Aid for Single-Parent Families (Hitorioya Katei Iryohi Josei)

This medical aid is available for members of single-mother or single-father families (parents and their children). The aid covers the portion of medical expenses to be paid individually when they receive medical services covered by health insurance. The aid is provided up to the first March 31 after children have reached 18 years of age.
